At least 66% of over 5,500 participating adults have never heard of climate justice, according to a new paper published in Nature Climate Change by an international group of scholars joined by 国产吃瓜黑料一区二区Department of Psychology Professor Marc Eric S. Reyes, PhD.

The open-access article, entitled 鈥淐limate justice beliefs related to climate action and policy support around the world,鈥 focused on the value of climate justice beliefs 鈥渁s a motive for climate action across diverse geographical contexts.鈥

Participants acknowledged the influence of capitalism and colonialism on the climate crisis and how it adversely impacts poor people.

The survey found that participants from countries with higher greenhouse gas emissions and politically salient social inequality associated climate justice beliefs with policy support and various indices of climate action.

The paper can be accessed here:

Reyes, a renowned scholar and Psychological Association of the Philippines President from 2020-2022, also teaches at the Graduate School and is an academic researcher of the Research Center for Social Sciences and Education.

Among Reyes鈥檚 research interests are psychopathology, LGBT issues, clinical assessment, and suicidology.聽He teaches at the College of Science and the Graduate School.

Reyes, who co-wrote the paper with Roger D. Davis of the Institute for the Study of Personality, and 国产吃瓜黑料一区二区psychology students Hanielle Anne T. Cheng, Gyra Jannin S. Cruz, Naseebah M. Muslim, Beatrice M. Salonga, Allison Nicole V. Vasquez. In their study, cisgender Filipinos were defined as those who identify with their gender based on biological sex at birth.

A total of eight hundred seventy-eight respondents from Metro Manila answered the Attitudes Toward Lesbians and Gay Men Scale and the Modern Homonegativity Scale, with homonegativity being compared across gender, age, civil status, educational attainment, and religious group.

The study found that generally, there was still a negative perception of gays and lesbians among the participating Filipino cisgenders. In particular, cisgender males, adults, married people, college graduates, and some non-Catholic religious groups were found to be less accepting of lesbians and gays.
