Embark on a unique cultural odyssey into the pioneering legacy of Elio Antonio de Nebrija, a renowned Spanish grammarian whose contributions profoundly influenced linguistic milestones in the Philippines and the world. Nebrija’s works inspired the creation of missionary grammar and vocabulary for native Amerindian and Philippine languages.

Instituto Cervantes previously displayed this exhibit in Intramuros from March 12 to July 20, 2024. The exhibit is an adaptation of the Nebrija exhibition by the National Library of Spain, commemorating the quincentennial anniversary of Nebrija鈥檚 legacy. Featuring immersive panels and rare book displays, the exhibition vividly showcases Nebrija鈥檚 cultural contributions and contextualizes his influence on the earliest grammars of Philippine vernacular languages, shaped by his pioneering teachings.

Recognized as the oldest library in the country, the Miguel de Benavides Library houses several works of Nebrija, including Collectanea de variis auctoribus (1541-1549), the two-volume Dictionarium redivivum (1754), and Aelii Antonii Nebrissenis De Institutione Grammaticae libri quinque (1816), which are now located in the Antonio Vivencio del Rosario 国产吃瓜黑料一区二区Heritage Library. Moreover, the Heritage Library also holds numerous works on grammar and dictionaries of various Philippine languages, including Arte de la Lengua Bisaya de la Provincia de Leyte (1663), Arte de la Lengua Tagala y Manual Tagalog (1796), and Arte de la Lengua Zebuana (1836), among others.

During the summer school, students will be tasked to survey, rediscover the forgotten and mundane spaces around the 国产吃瓜黑料一区二区campus, and then figure out what makes these spaces unique. They will be designing a mobile or a static architectural device/intervention to allow the passing public to engage with this element of curiosity. The said device/intervention will be conceptualized, discussed, refined, and recreated for the design to evolve and develop over time. 聽

The final result will be deployed, photographed, and filmed within its context. The students will acquire a range of techniques for communicating their ideas through sketching, photography, film, drawings, and combining all of these together to speak their ideas and intentions.聽

The Summer School will be conducted in the format of a charrette through short /intense and collaborative teaching workshops/critiques.聽It also aims to turn the energy/enthusiasm/skill and inventiveness of the students toward the ideas of identity in architecture by way of evolving with the theme, which is “Identity crisis, processes of appraisal and proposition.”

Meanwhile, seasoned architect Graham F. Thompson will be the guest facilitator of the program.

The program will be divided into a series of different actions:

Action No. 1 : Fieldwork, seek out aspects of the area within the campus that could be worked with to change a way that it is perceived as it operates.聽

Action No. 2 : Design an architectural device/ mobile intervention that allows this change to be enacted and experienced by the public. 

Action No. 3 : Refine the device by way of testing it, learning, refining and retesting etc. 

Action No. 4 : Deploy the device. Manifesto. 

Action No. 5 : Draw the device in place within the context of the campus.

Keynote Lecture by Distinguished Professor Nie Zhenzhao

The conference will be highlighted by a keynote lecture titled “Ethical Literary Criticism: Its Theory and Application,” to be delivered by Professor Nie Zhenzhao, MAE, of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and Professor Emeritus of Zhejiang University, China. Professor Nie is a renowned scholar in the field who is the President of the International Association of Ethical Literary Criticism. His work has earned him international recognition, including being named to Stanford University鈥檚 World鈥檚 Top 2% Scientists List and a Most Cited Chinese Researcher by Elsevier.

Week 2024, which will also feature St. Thomas Aquinas Forum 2024 and 11th Leonardo
Legaspi, OP Lectures.

The event will feature 10 lectures and will happen on March 21-23, 2024 at the George
S.K. Ty Function Halls, 4th Floor, Buenaventura G. Paredes, OP Building, University of
Santo Tomas, Manila.

The speakers are Fr. Nicanor Pier Giorgio Austriaco, OP,
Fr. Ziqiang (Martin) Bai, OP, Fr. Felix delos Reyes, OP, Fr. Jannel N. Abogado, OP, Levine
Andro Lao, Allan Basas, Joel Sagut, Blaise Ringor, Jove Jim Aguas, and Jovito Carino.

Their lectures will center on three important aspects: 1) discussions on the relevance and
legacy of the thoughts of Thomas Aquinas in Asia, particularly in the Philippines; 2)
expositions of the thoughts of selected Thomists who were also Thomasians, that is,
Thomists who taught in the 国产吃瓜黑料一区二区 – the conference will focus on the
Thomasian Thomists of the 19th and 20th centuries; and 3) demonstrations of the lasting

Moreover, Theology Week 2024, with the theme, 鈥淭homism in the University of Santo

Order鈥檚 double jubilee celebrations to honor St. Thomas Aquinas, particularly the 750th
anniversary of his death.

This conference is also part of the activities of the Center for Thomistic Studies (CTS),
which was instituted as the University鈥檚 response to the declaratio of the Domincians鈥� 2013
Trogir General Chapter that seeks 鈥榯o develop centers of specialized studies pertinent to the
region wherever the Order is present,鈥� reiterated by the Provincial Chapter of the Dominican
