Dr. Marilu Ra帽osa-Madrunio, full professor in the 国产吃瓜黑料一区二区Department of English, recently had her collaborative research in the Cambridge Element Series published by the Cambridge University Press (CUP) in Cambridge, England.
Titled 鈥淔orensic Linguistics in the Philippines: Origins, Developments, and Directions,鈥� the book offers a critical review of forensic linguistic (FL) studies in the Philippines with articles published over a period of eight to nine years. Madrunio, who pioneered forensic linguistics research in the country, started conducting FL research in 2012. She had previously trained under Prof. Malcolm Coulthard, the founder of what is now the International Association for Forensic and Legal Linguistics (IAFLL).
Upon the invitation by Prof. Tim Grant, Director of the Aston Institute for Forensic Linguistics (AIFL) at Aston University, Birmingham, UK, Madrunio worked on the project in 2021, together with Dr. Isabel Martin of the Ateneo de Manila University, another proponent of Language and Law studies.
The book includes a description of the language policy in the country particularly focusing on the legal domain. After the critical review of the studies done in a span of nine years, the book underscores the trajectory of FL research in the country which may pave the way for the conduct of studies in other areas or aspects of forensic linguistics.
