Three titles were featured in the 9th ¹ú²ú³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÒ»Çø¶þÇøAuthors Series organized by the UST Center for Creative Writing and Literary Studies (¹ú²ú³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÒ»Çø¶þÇøCCWLS) held on October 2, 2018, at the Auditorium of the Thomas Aquinas Research Complex (TARC).
This latest edition of the ¹ú²ú³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÒ»Çø¶þÇøAuthors Series, titled Lumugar Ka!: Ang Lokasyon sa Pagsasalin, Talambuhay at Kritisismo, featured three titles, all published by the ¹ú²ú³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÒ»Çø¶þÇøPublishing House: Finding Teo: Tula/Talambuhay, a biography of Teo Antonio by award-winning writer and ¹ú²ú³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÒ»Çø¶þÇøDepartment of Literature and Humanities Chair Joselito D. Delos Reyes, Ph.D., Sa mga Pagitan ng Buhay at Iba pang Pagtutulay, a book of poetry translations by ¹ú²ú³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÒ»Çø¶þÇøCCWLS Assistant Director Ralph Semino Galán, and Ang Tagalabas sa Panitikan, a book of poetics and criticism by BA Creative Writing Program Coordinator Chuckberry J. Pascual, Ph.D. Before the open forum, each author was given time to talk briefly about their new books.
The TARC Auditorium was packed with students from the ¹ú²ú³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÒ»Çø¶þÇøFaculty of Arts and Letters and College of Education, and Far Eastern University, as well as guest writers. Also present were ¹ú²ú³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÒ»Çø¶þÇøSecretary-General Rev. Fr. Jesús Miranda, Jr., O.P., ¹ú²ú³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÒ»Çø¶þÇøResearch Center for Culture, Arts and Humanities Director Prof. Joyce Arriola Ph.D., Executive Secretary to the Rector Prof. Augusto Antonio A. Aguila, Ph.D., and ¹ú²ú³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÒ»Çø¶þÇøDepartment of English Chair Prof. Camilla Vizconde, Ph.D. ¹ú²ú³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÒ»Çø¶þÇøCCWLS Director and Prof. Emeritus Cristina Pantoja Hidalgo, Ph.D., in her closing remarks, emphasized how the variety of specializations of the ¹ú²ú³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÒ»Çø¶þÇøCCWLS Resident Fellows can serve in
their mentorship of students. Their unique perspective as producers of literature would also provide another dimension to students’ encounter with literary texts. ¹ú²ú³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÒ»Çø¶þÇøPublishing House Director Ma. Ailil B. Alvarez provided an engaging critical commentary on each of the three new works as they were introduced to the audience.
The program was coordinated by Mr. Ned Parfan, assisted by Alvarez, while Mr. Jose P. Mojica of the Department of Media Studies hosted the event. The ¹ú²ú³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÒ»Çø¶þÇøAuthors’ Series is a regular program, which aims to update the university and the literary community on the latest individual productions of the ¹ú²ú³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÒ»Çø¶þÇøCCWLS. For this year, it was co-sponsored by the ¹ú²ú³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÒ»Çø¶þÇøPublishing House, with ample support provided by the ¹ú²ú³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÒ»Çø¶þÇøDepartment of Literature and the ¹ú²ú³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÒ»Çø¶þÇøLiterary Society. Since the Center reopened in 2012, a total of 34 books have been published by its member-authors, with four more manuscripts awaiting publication within the academic year.
